Have you ever wondered why it seems like toast always hits the floor with the buttered side facing down? In this worksheet and accompanying video, I solve the mystery of falling toast by discussing confirmation bias. I go over the four ways that people can experience confirmation bias and offer some tips on how to avoid it.

This worksheet is designed to support my YouTube video on confirmation bias, where I explain what confirmation bias is and how we can use scientific thinking to overcome it.
The first set of questions use a version of Harvard's Project Zero thinking routine 'Take Note', to help kids focus on the key ideas of the video while considering things they'd like to know more about.
After watching the video, the questions then build in complexity from simple recall to more challenging open-ended questions that students can discuss in a group.
This worksheet is one of a series on how we can overcome cognitive biases and logical fallacies using the systematic thinking routines offered by science.
